Previous Discussion: http://ectozone.proboards31.com/index.c ... 1092406710 Ghostbusters: A Bit of Family Business Egon's thirtieth birthday is livened by the arrival of Dr. Ellis Spengler and his daughter. And Ellis is bringing an offer that his half-brother may not be able to refuse... This story grew out of my wanting to reconcile the Ghostbusters: Nightsquad backstory with the canonical material, and that had two problems: 1. Their origin was written as taking place as an offshoot of GB1, way back in 1984. And 2. Egon is treated in the canon as an only child. The first point Bo and I resolved by connecting the origin to EGB's "Back In The Saddle". The Beginning tells the latest version of the story. Working with Jen to create and define Ellis Spengler and his tragic backstory was designed to answer the second point. By having Egon and Ellis technically be half-brothers who weren't raised together, Jen can still be Egon's niece and Egon can still be essentially raised an only child. I think it's a compromise that's worked out pretty well. |
